Day 6 - Pre-Shift

It was a busy weekend - record crowds at the various events and the winning streaks continue

There was some negative publicity about failure to provide enough buses for a Park and Ride facility for those going to Hampden Park for the Athletics, which resulted in many spectators being inconvenienced. It appears that seems to have been resolved for this mornings events. Good sized crowd in at start of morning session at 10am

While Australia topped the medals table at the end of last night,  Scotland continues to do well and is already close to matching their best ever haul of medals.

Today's headlines from the papers:

In particular they lead on the youngest ever medal winner, the 13 year paraswimmer from Shetland

Yesterday the Scotland Yes group protested outside BBC Scotland about bias in reporting - strongly denied by BBC. The group stated that 1200 people attended but that would appear to be hyperbole on their part if you look at the numbers in picture below. Police Scotland thought it was more like 400 but that could easily be an overestimate

Today downtown is busy. Long queues for tickets (with paramedics dealing with fainters) and for the store where things seem to be flying off the shelves

Some more pictures from Merchant Square area.  Notice the flying (single) red arrow to show you were Merchant Square is

Overheard one of the stall holders say that they had already covered all their rent etc and that from now the rest is profit - so the Games etc have been successful for the local economy

There is even a bakery on site
